Discovery+ History, Coverage, Features
Discovery+ is an online streaming service owned and operated by Discovery Networks. It was launched in 2018 as QuestOD. It would later be rebranded as DPlay, but in an attempt to expand the streaming service globally, Dplay would be rebranded once again, this time to Discovery+. The streaming platform saw the light under its new name on January 4, 2021.
Since its launch under a different name, Discovery+ has offered a wide variety of content for its subscribers. The platform has offered live TV, movies streaming, sports streaming, series, documentaries, and more. The platform offers linear channel feeds as well as exclusive content for the platform.
Speaking about sports, Discovery+ has included a number of disciplines through its deals with terrestrial channels and streaming deals. Some of those sports have included football, hockey, tennis, winter sports, handball, basketball, futsal, golf, cycling, and more. Both domestic and international competitions have been covered on this platform over the years.
When it comes to football, Discovery+ has streamed content for leagues such as the Serie A, La Liga, the Allsvenskan, the Superettan, the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the MLS, Swedish Cup games and Copa del Rey matches. Added to that, the service has also included UEFA Europa League games.
Discovery+ has been available in different platforms for users who want to follow its content while on-the-go. Some of those devices include web browsers for PC and Mac, mobile apps for iOS and Apple TV, mobile devices working with Android and Android TV, AmazonFire TV and Amazon Fire HD, Chromecast, Roku devices, and videogame consoles such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
