Kanal A History, Coverage, Features
Kanal A is a private television channel owned and operated by Pro Plus d.o.o. The channel was launched on May 16, 1991, becoming the first independent television channel in Slovenia. The network has frequently been named as the second most popular channel in the country.
Over the years, Kanal A has made an effort to reach a demographic between 18 and 49 years of age, with reality shows, sports shows, tv series, animated programs, game shows, news programs and more occupying most of its airtime. The channel has aired both international and domestic shows for that purpose, dubbing those shows from abroad or even providing subtitles if necessary. Sports such as football, motorsports, basketball, and others have also been aired on the channel.
Speaking about sports, Kanal A has focused mostly on airing international football, with tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Europa Conference League being aired on this channel. Live games and additional coverage such as highlight reels have been made available for fans to watch as time has gone by.
Kanal A was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but reports have stated that a High-Definition feed is already being developed and tested in some regions of the country. The network has been available in multiple pay-tv carriers across the country to facilitate its accessibility.
