About
Nova Sports 3 History, Coverage, Features
Nova Sports is a Greek television channel owned and operated by Nova, a telecommunications company from that country. The channel became the first premium sports service in Greece back in 1994, when it was launched under the name SuperSport. The network changed names on June 1, 2008, when it became known as Nova Sports. Over the years, Nova Sports has added channels to cover the wide variety of sports events they have broadcasting rights for.
Sports coverage on Nova Sports has included disciplines such as football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, motorsports, golf, tennis, cycling, snooker, mixed martial arts, and more. Usually, Nova Sports 3 has aired the third most relevant live event taking place at any given time, with football frequently being the most aired sport on this channel.
Speaking about football, Nova Sports 3 has aired content related to top-tier leagues such as the Greek Super League, the Spanish Primera División, the German Bundesliga, the Dutch Eredivisie, French Ligue 1, the Belgian First Division, the MLS, or the Australian A-League. Other football competitions covered by this channel have included the Spanish Segunda División, the French Ligue 2, the EFL Championship, the Italian Serie B, and the 2. Bundesliga, to name a few. Cup competitions such as the FA Cup, the DFB-Pokal, the Coppa Italia, the Coupe de France, the Dutch KNVB Cup, or the Belgian Cup have also found a home on this channel.
Games for national teams have also been covered on this channel, with games for the UEFA Nations League or the European Qualifiers, both for the World Cup and UEFA Euro tournaments, being aired on this channel. Additional programming such as highlights shows or sports debate programs has also been included in the channel’s grid.
Nova Sports 3 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was launched during the early 2010s to improve the viewer’s experience. Users who are not able to watch the HD feed might be able to watch a downscaled version of the channel in certain regions of the country.
