NRK 3 History, Coverage, Features

NRK 3 is a Norwegian digital television channel owned and operated by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. The channel was launched on September 3, 2007 and has shared its frequency with NRK Super, a channel that specializes on children’s programming.

Since its launch, NRK 3 has focused on airing content for young adults between 16 and 29 years of age. Soap operas, TV series, music shows, and more have been included in the channel’s grid over the years. Usually, NRK 3 has started its broadcasts at 19:30 daily, leaving the rest of the day for NRK Super’s broadcasts.

Speaking about sports, NRK 3 may be used as an overflow channel for top-caliber events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Summer Olympics, and the Winter Olympic Games. The channel has been used to cover live events covered by the network if required, although such events are usually aired only on its sister networks.

NRK 3 saw the light as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed in the late 2000s and eventually launched on February 1, 2011. Users who may not have access to that sort of technology may be able to watch a downscaled version of the HD feed.
