About
NRK2 History, Coverage, Features
NRK 2 is a Norwegian television channel owned and operated by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. The channel was launched in a test phase on January 31, 1974, with sporadic broadcasts to keep testing the network. After years of development, the channel finally saw the light on September 1, 1996, forcing its sister channel NRK to change its name to NRK 1.
Over the tears, NRK 2 has been known as an entertainment channel with a highbrow approach, mainly because the most popular programs are frequently aired on NRK 1. Drama series, documentaries, news, comedy shows, movies and music programs have been aired on this channel regularly.
Speaking about sports, NRK 2 has been used as an overflow channel for top-caliber events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Summer Olympics, and the Winter Olympic Games. The channel has been used to cover these events with news broadcasts, although there may be some live events covered by the network if required.
NRK 1 saw the light as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed in the late 2000s and eventually launched on February 1, 2011. Users who may not have access to that sort of technology may be able to watch a downscaled version of the HD feed.
The published listings of live, re-aired, and on-demand match and program events published on this website are broadcast by the official rights holders.
