About
Sport 4 History, Coverage, Features
Sports 4, also known as Charlton 4, is the fourth channel for the Israeli network of sports channels that works under that name. It is owned by businessmen Eli Azour and Pini Zahavi. The channel began its broadcasts in 2017 as an overflow option to Sports 1, Sports 2, and Sports 3.
Over the years, Sports 4 has been known for airing content to cover various disciplines, which have included football, basketball, tennis, handball, athletics, and wrestling, among others. The channel benefits from some of its sister network’s broadcasting rights, which have helped them cover content related to various leagues and competitions from across the globe, while also including domestic tournaments in its programming.
When it comes to football, Sports 4 has covered leagues such as the English Premier League, the English Championship, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the Belgian First Division, the Russian Premier League, the Turkish Super Lig, the Eredivisie, or the Portuguese Liga Portugal, to name a few. Other leagues covered by this channel have included the Argentine Primera División and the Brasileirao. As the cherry on top, Sports 4 has also covered continental club tournaments such as the UEFA Europa League or the Copa Libertadores.
Sports 4 was launched as a Standard Definition channel as part of an agreement reached by the company with the Israeli Cable Broadcasting Council, which granted two more broadcasting slots to the company but asked them to keep both of those feeds working in SD format.
