TVP Sport is a Polish television channel owned and operated by by Telewizja Polska, a media corporation from Poland that is mostly operated by the government of that country. This channel was launched on November 18, 2006 to focus on sports coverage, leaving its sister channels to cover more general interest shows, but also sharing with them coverage of top sports competitions from around the world.
Over the years, TVP Sport has aired a wide variety of disciplines, which have included athletics, cycling, equestrian, football, futsal, handball, Ice hockey, tennis, weightlifting, winter sports, and even certain editions of the Olympic Games. Some of the content aired on this channel has been related to international tournaments, but domestic competitions have also been featured on this channel as time has gone by.
Speaking about football, TVP Sport has aired content related to club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the Polish Ekstraklasa, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Spanish Copa del Rey. International football tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the UEFA Euro, the UEFA Nations League, and the Copa América have also been aired on this channel.
TVP Sport was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was added as one more option for fans on January 12, 2014. The launch of the HD feed did not cause the SD feed to disappear, as both have been available with the same content over the years.
