About Primera B
Primera B History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Primera B Chilena is the second most relevant football tournament in the Chilean football system behind the Primera División de Chile. It belongs to the Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, which answers to the Chilean Football Federation. It is one of the three professional football leagues in Chile, and it was founded in 1952.
Over the years, the Primera B Chilena has seen over 70 teams playing matches under its jurisdiction. The league works under a promotion-relegation system, which sees the competition starting in February and coming to an end between October and November. The team with the most points earns automatic promotion to the Primera División, while the runners-up are handed a spot in the promotion playoff finals. Four more teams fight for a chance to face the runners-up in the promotion final, where a two-leg tie hands out the remaining promotion spot.
In terms of who is relegated to the Segunda División, the Chilean Primera B uses a system where the average of the past three years decides which team is sent down. The system is known as Coeficientes and is used in different leagues across South America.
Coverage of the Primera B Chilena has been negotiated by the Chilean Football Federation, with TNT Sports being in charge of covering all games on TV and via streaming. Linear channels for the network and the streaming platform Estadio TNT Sports have agreed long-term deals to cover this competition.
