The Premier League 2 Division 2 is the second of two tiers in the Premier League 2, the competitive tournament in England that replaced the Barclays U21 Premier League. This competition was introduced from 2016/17 onwards and increased the age limit to under-23. It focuses on technicality, physicality, and intensity in order to replicate the first-team experience for the young players.
This division consists of 12 teams. The Division 2 champions earn automatic promotion to Division 1 while the clubs that finish in spots two to five enter a play-off to win the second ticket to the top tier. The second-placed side hosts the fourth-placed team while the third-placed club welcomes the fourth-placed side in the semi-finals. Both this round and the final are one-off matches.
