About FIFA Confederations Cup
FIFA Confederations Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The FIFA Confederations Cup was a quadrennial tournament run by football’s governing body. It was played between 1992 and 2017, with the first two editions being named King Fahd Cup. Eventually, FIFA would take the concept and invite all six champions from football confederations around the globe take part in this competition, joined by the host nation and the World Champions, to draw them in two groups of four.
This competition was used as a test for all World Cup hosts except for the 2003 edition, since all games were played one year before FIFA’s premier competition while using half of the venues scheduled where the tournament was scheduled to be played.
In 2019, FIFA announced that the Confederations Cup would no longer be played, giving way to an expanded format of the FIFA Club World Cup. Throughout its history, Brazil became the most successful team in the competition, with four titles to their name.
