About Kazakhstan Premier League
Kazakhstan Premier League History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Kazakhstan Premier League, previously known as the Kazakhstan Super League, is the top-tier football category in that country, following its creation in 1992 after the country earned its independence from Russia. Despite being an Asian country, this league offers entry to UEFA-sanctioned competitions. The league is currently ranked 24th in UEFA’s coefficient system.
Due to harsh weather conditions in Kazakhstan, the tournament typically takes place between March and November of each calendar year. Each team must face their rivals three times each season, which means that each team has to play 33 games each campaign. The top three teams enter European competitions, while the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to the Kazakhstan First Division. There’s a third promotion-relegation spot, which is determined by a playoff between the third-worst team in the Premier League and the third place of the Kazakhstan First Division.
Did you know? After winning the title in 2019, Astana became the most-winning club in the Kazakhstan Premier League’s history, breaking the tie between them, Irtysh Pavlodar and Aktobe, who had won five titles as of that year.
