About Scottish Championship
Scottish Championship History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Scottish Championship is the second division league in Scotland run by the SPFL. The competition was established back in 2013 due to the merger of the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League in the early 2010s.
In this tournament, 10 teams in total battle it out for the title. The league, which follows a fall-spring schedule, boasts a promotion/relegation system, with the first-placed team earning an automatic ticket to the Premiership and the bottom side automatically dropping to League One.
The teams that finish second to fourth enter a promotion playoff. The runners-up go straight into the semi-final while the clubs placed third and fourth face off in the first round. The winners of this clash then clash the runners-up in the penultimate stage. Whoever triumphs in this encounter then locks horns with the 11th-placed Premiership side from that same season in the ultimate game for a spot in the top flight.
Similarly, the ninth-placed team in the Championship enters a relegation playoff with the teams placed second, third, and fourth in League One. The two teams that triumph in the first round then clash in the final, with the winner getting to play in the Championship the following season and the loser joining the other three in League One.
