We are down to the last eight South American teams in the top club tournament in America, and things could not be more interesting prior to the start of this round.
The pool is quite divided in terms of how many teams from each country are still in the race. Brazil dominates here with three teams, while Bolivia, Colombia, and Paraguay still have one club in the tournament. As for Argentina, the Primera División still has two clubs from that league, but unfortunately for their cause, both of them will face each other in this round, leaving only one in the title race when the quarter finals come to an end.
There is a bit of history between some of the teams facing each other in this round, which is set to begin on Tuesday with one game, followed by two on Wednesday and one more on Thursday. With that in mind, let us give you a glimpse of what will go down in the Copa Libertadores this week.
Bolívar vs Internacional: These teams from Bolivia and Brazil kick things off trying to show why they were able to get to this stage. The hosts for this game finished the group stage in second place behind Palmeiras, while Internacional won their group without losing a match. Los Celestes would then go on to eliminate Athletico Paranaense after penalties to earn the right to face Inter, who also went through a spot-kick definition against River Plate. This is one of two fixtures with no prior meetings between each rival, although both of them have faced teams from Brazil and Bolivia previously. Bolívar will face Brazilian opposition in a Copa Libertadores game for the 31st time, with only eleven of those ending in wins. On the other hand Inter will run into a Bolivian club for the ninth time in this tournament, winning four of those games and losing twice.

Boca Juniors vs Racing: The only remaining teams from Argentina lock horns for the eighth time in Copa Libertadores history, and with everything to play for between them. Both clubs topped their groups against Brazilian opposition (Racing against Flamengo, Boca facing Corinthians), but their road to this stage was not t all the same. Racing came from behind to eliminate Atlético Nacional with a 5-4 aggregate, thanks to their three-nil victory in front of their supporters. Meanwhile, Boca needed penalties to kick Nacional out of the competition after a goalless draw away from home and a 2-2 match at La Bombonera. The only KO stage meeting between these teams in the Libertadores took place in 2020, with Boca claiming a spot in the next round thanks to a 2-1 aggregate. Will things be the same this time around?

Deportivo Pereira vs Palmeiras: The Colombians get to face the top-seeded team in the Libertadores with much to prove and with nothing to lose. El Lobo made it to the KO stage after finishing second behind Boca in Group F, while Palmeiras dominated Group C and went on to survive an all-Brazilian clash against Atlético Mineiro with a narrow one-nil aggregate. Deportivo Pereira will face their first Copa Libertadores match against a team from Brazil, while Palmeiras will try to extend their dominance over Colombian opposition, following their eight wins out of ten matches against teams from Colombia.

Fluminense vs Olimpia: "Flu" and the Paraguayan club will face each other with quite a bit of history surrounding this tie. The Brazilians reached this stage claiming the top spot in Group D, while Olimpia also won Group H. Fluminense made headlines after beating Argentinos Juniors, while Olimpia were able to eliminate Flamengo with a 3-1 win at home, leaving the title race wide open. This will be the fifth Copa Libertadores game between these teams, and surprisingly, Olimpia have an edge over Fluminense, with two wins in four matches against the Brazilians, which include a penalty shootout win for El Decano. Will coach Fernando Diniz (also in charge of Brazil's National Team) turn things around for Fluminense? Or will Olimpia's dreams of winning the title keep going?
