Real Madrid issue statement regarding FIFA Club World Cup participation after Ancelotti hinted at snub
Real Madrid fans were treated to a shocking claim from their manager regarding next year's FIFA Club World. According to Carlo Ancelotti, the UEFA Champions League holders would not compete in the expanded 32-team tournament in the USA.
Il Giornale interviewed the Italian manager, who shockingly revealed that Los Blancos would play no part in that competition, arguing that the financial incentive was lackluster for a team of Real Madrid's stature.
"FIFA can forget it. The club and the footballers won't participate in that tournament," Ancelotti told the Italian newspaper. "One Real Madrid game is worth 20 million [euros], and FIFA wants to give us that sum for the entire tournament. No way. Like us, other clubs will refuse the invitation."
However, this interview from Ancelotti has forced Real Madrid to issue an official statement regarding this matter. The club distanced themselves from their manager's claim, revealing that they will in fact participate in next year's competition. Read more…

Fans get 8 months jail for racism targeting Real Madrid's Vinicius
Three Valencia fans were handed eight-month jail terms Monday for racist abuse towards Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, a court said, in what Spain's La Liga said was the first such conviction in Spain.
The defendants, who were not identified, were convicted of an offense against moral integrity with the aggravating factor of racially motivated discrimination, the Valencia court said.
They were also slapped with a two-year match ban. With no previous criminal record, none will serve jail time as judges habitually suspend prison sentences of less than two years for first-time offenders.
La Liga hailed the ruling as "the first sentence handed down for racist insults in a Spanish football stadium". Read more…
