Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez is drawing close to a La Liga switch only two years after arriving at the Etihad Stadium.
This is according to a report from the Athletic which claims Atletico Madrid are on the brink of bringing the Argentine to the Metropolitano Stadium.
A total agreement has not been reached but the two parties are making significant progress towards finalizing this deal. The attacker is currently on holiday after representing Argentina at both the Copa America and 2024 Olympics but is keen on joining Simeone's side.
As a result, personal terms are not thought to be an issue. The final fee and payment structure are being worked out but the Premier League champions are expected to earn at least five times the £14M they paid to acquire him from River Plate.
The 24-year-old helped the Cityzens win the treble in his debut season but played a bit-part role behind Erling Haaland. The Argentine found more playing time last season but was used across several positions, helping the club to another Premier League title and scoring 11 goals.
If completed, this deal could lead to a domino effect that involves Man City's Premier League rivals Chelsea. The London giants have a long-standing interest in Atletico's Samu Omorodion and a deal for Alvarez could result in Los Rojiblancos selling the 20-year-old Spanish striker.
Chelsea have already had a £27.4M plus add-ons offer rejected by Atletico but the Premier League outfit could wrap up this deal in the region of £35M.
Atlético Madrid are set to accept Chelsea proposal for Samu Omorodion, worth around £35m package.

Atléti will ONLY give green light to Samu-Chelsea when they get Julián Álvarez deal done with City/agent.
