And then there were four.
Four teams now remain as the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games Women's Soccer Tournament prepares to get underway on Tuesday, August 6th.
Here's all you need to know.
Curiously enough, both semi-finals will feature repeats of matches from the group stages in this competition. First up will be a rematch starring the USWNT and Germany, with that game kicking off at 12 pm EST (9 am PST). The Stars and Stripes, who are now under the leadership of former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes, have looked quite solid so far in this competition as they aim to make amends following their poor showing at the Women's World Cup last summer.
Team USA won all three of their group stage matches by an aggregate score of nine goals to two, and that includes a resounding 4-1 victory over Germany on matchday two. They naturally will be looking for the same kind of result as they aim for Olympic gold, but it's safe to say that Germany will be seeking revenge for their heavy defeat and equally will be as inspired to clinch a win to feature in the gold medal match on Saturday.
After that match, next up on the docket will be another rematch, with Spain taking on Brazil at 3 pm EST (12 pm PST). Spain, who are making their debut at an Olympic Games, were in control as they won all three of their group stage matches. However, La Roja, who are also the reigning World Cup champions, were given a real test against Colombia, but managed to finally see off their opponents following a tense penalty shoot-out. Brazil, for their part, kept their medal hopes alive following a gritty 1-0 win over hosts France, but they will need to put in a much better shift to beat a Spain side that defeated them 2-0 on matchday three of the group stages.
