Los Blancos face Atalanta on Wednesday but will be without one crucial midfielder after he picked up a knee injury in training.

Real Madrid are gearing up for their highly-anticipated UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on Wednesday. However, the UEFA Champions League holders were dealt a major blow just before this showdown.

The Spanish giants take on the UEFA Europa League champions in Warsaw but will be without one key player. That man is Eduardo Camavinga, who has been ruled out for several weeks after picking up an unfortunate injury during a training session for this midweek clash.

A clip of this training session was posted on social media. Camavinga appears to slip and land awkwardly, hurting his knee in the process. The Frenchman was in visible pain following this incident as he could be heard screaming.

The former Rennes sensation received medical attention on the pitch before walking off on his own. Fortunately, a cruciate ligament injury was ruled out almost immediately but the player was sadly diagnosed with an internal collateral ligament sprain in his left knee.

As a result, the 21-year-old has been ruled out for 6-7 weeks and will thus miss the UEFA Super Cup and the start of the new La Liga campaign. The midfielder could return in late September or early October, meaning his availability for the Madrid Derby against Atletico on September 28-29 remains under doubt.

Camavinga played a crucial role for Ancelotti's men last season, both starring in midfield and filling key holes in other areas of the pitch due to injuries.

The Frenchman started last season's UEFA Champions League final against Dortmund, which Real Madrid won 2-0 to secure their ticket to the UEFA Super Cup.

On a positive note, marquee summer signing Kylian Mbappe is expected to make his debut in this showdown. This means the 2018 FIFA World Cup can lift a trophy in his very first match in a Los Merengues jersey.
