The incoming player should bolster Ten Hag's midfield and could be available for Sunday's highly-anticipated showdown with Liverpool.

Manchester United have finally signed a defensive midfielder, with the Premier League giants striking up a deal with PSG for one of the Ligue 1 giants' players for a total of $67M.

That player is Manuel Ugarte, the Uruguayan ace who joined the French giants from Sporting CP only last summer. The Parisian club have been keen on selling the South American after failing to impress Luis Enrique, making only 21 starts, with the Red Devils taking him off their hands.

Erik ten Hag's side have been desperate for reinforcement in the defensive midfielder role following Casemiro's dip in form last season. Furthermore, with Scott McTominay headed to Napoli, the English giants would have been left without cover for the aging Brazilian.

Manchester United's deal for Ugarte is not a loan, but rather a permanent agreement. PSG initially wanted a fixed €60M ($67M) for the 23-year-old, but the Red Devils were reluctant to meet this asking price.

As revealed by Duncan Castles' The Transfers Podcast, the 20-time English champions have instead agreed to pay €50M ($55.8M) upfront plus an additional €10M ($11.2) in performance-related add-ons. Furthermore, the French giants have secured a 10 percent sell-on clause.

The player is headed to Carrington to complete this deal and could potentially be available for this Sunday's highly-anticipated Premier League showdown with bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ten Hag's men host the Merseyside giants on the back of another bumpy start to the English top-flight season, narrowly beating Fulham 1-0 in their opening game before losing to Brighton in stoppage time on Saturday.
