The London giants attempted to bring the Nigerian superstar to Stamford Bridge on the final day of the summer transfer window but saw their attempts end in vain.

Chelsea were keen on signing Victor Osimhen on Deadline Day but the London giants failed with their attempts to bring the Nigerian superstar to Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League side reportedly sent their chiefs to Naples to get this deal over the line but could not convince the former Lille ace to join the Blues on their terms.

This has left fans wondering why the move fell apart, especially given that the 25-year-old did not join Al Ahli as previously feared. According to the Sun, the biggest sticking point was the wages.

The British tabloid suggests that the Nigerian striker demanded £500,000 a week in wages, a figure neither Al Ahli nor Chelsea were willing to offer him.

Well-known French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported that Chelsea offered Osimhen a base salary of £130,000 per week but with heavy incentives. However, the player rejected this offer.

Sky Sports tells a different story, with the British news outlet claiming that Victor wanted something in the region of £330,000. The London giants made an offer on Deadline Day but received no response, thus ending their pursuit.

And with that saga over, Osimhen has ended up staying in Naples until the January transfer window at the earliest. However, this does not spell the end of his saga as Napoli have stripped the player of his no.9 jersey, which has been handed to summer signing Romelu Lukaku. Furthermore, the Italian outfit have omitted the Nigerian from their Serie A squad.
